75,000 points on a new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Card

    MarkBy MarkJune 22, 2017No Comments3 Mins Read

ANZ have extended the offer to earn 75,000 Qantas Points for new customers to the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card. As ANZ have now parted ways with American Express, new customers will only receive a Black Visa card.

On top of the points,  ANZ are offering no annual fee in the first year. As the annual fee is $425 per year, the first year waiver is quite a discount.

In order to be eligible for the points, you will need to

    • Apply for the card by April 30, 2018 (Eligibility criteria, T&Cs, fees and charges apply)
    • Spend $2,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months.

For further information, refer to the promotion page.

    ANZ Frequent Flyer Black

ANZ offer a range of Frequent Flyer cards, with the Frequent Flyer Black card being its top of the line version. As with most of the large banks, ANZ no longer offer a companion American Express card.

In the Visa heirarchy of cards, the Black appears to slot in at around the level of the Signature cards, although it is not named as such.

    Points Earning

While the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cards offer unlimited earning, the point earning is tiered. The following table shows the effect of the earning tiers on the earn rate that can be achieved with this card.

    Tier Earn Rate
First $7,500 of eligible spend in a Statement Period 1 Qantas Point per dollar
Eligible spend above $7,500 in Statement Period  0.5 Qantas Points per dollar

    Travel Benefits

As with many premium cards, these Black cards come with a host of travel related benefits. These benefits include Airport Lounge Access, and a range of included insurances.

    Airport lounge access

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cardholders are eligible to two airport lounge visits per year. In order to access the lounges, you will need to request your passes from the ANZ Concierge. Note that the eligibility for the passes does not align with your membership year. You are entitled to 2 passes in a twelve month period. So if you delay in requesting the passes, you may have to wait a full 12 months in order to make the next request.

The card also offers access to Veloce lounges at various airports around the world. These include airports in  London, Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok.

In addition to the complimentary lounge access, cardholders have access to a discounted Qantas Club membership. In the first year of membership, cardholders can save $475 on joining the Qantas Club.

    Insurance Benefits

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black comes with ANZ’s premium credit card insurance coverage. Insurances available include

    • Overseas Travel and Medical Insurance
    • Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance
    • Purchase Security for up to 3 months – nsurance against loss, theft or accidental damage on most personal items purchased
    • Extended Warranty Insurance – double the manufacturer’s expressed Australian warranty on major personal and household purchases by up to an additional 12 months
    • Rental Excess cover

You will need to read tha associated PDS doucments to assess whether the insurance is suitable for your purposes.

    Summary

This is the kind of card that comes with a good earn rate, as well as a number of benefits just for holding the card. While it is expensive, at $425 per year, the waiver for the first year gives you 12 months to determine if you wish to keep the card.
