Qantas and Optus have rekindled their relationship, and once again Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to earn Qantas Points through Optus. This time around, you will be able to earn Qantas Points on selected plans.

Earning Qantas Points with Optus

As part of the new relationship, Qantas and Optus have rolled out three SIM-only plans offering Qantas Points. The three plans offer an initial sign-up bonus together with ongoing points based on your monthly bill.

The initial sign bonus starts at 5,000 points and goes up to 20,000 points, but there’s a catch to this. You don’t get them all immediately – they are paid out over time.

Depending on the plan, you can earn between 5 and 10 Qantas Points per dollar. So, as you pay your monthly fees, you will receive this rather nice bonus.

Overall, here are the three offers:

$39 SIM Only Plan $59 SIM Only Plan $79 SIM Only Plan
Inclusions:

30GB of data month-to-month

5,000 bonus Qantas Points plus 5 points per $1 spent on the monthly plan fee.

Inclusions:

100GB of data month-to-month

10,000 bonus Qantas Points plus 5 points per $1 spent on the monthly plan fee.

Inclusions:

150GB of data month-to-month

20,000 bonus Qantas Points plus 10 points per $1 spent on the monthly plan fee.

There’s a little bit to the timing of the sign-up bonus, with Optus paying out 5,000 points every three months on the plans. So, on the $39 plan, you will get your bonus after 3 months. On the $59 plan, you get the first 5,000 points after the third month, with the remainder being paid after 6 months. Finally, if you are on the $79 plan, you will get four lots of 5,000 points – at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.

Note that you have to sign up to one of these plans through Qantas. In addition, if you are an existing customer, you will need to take out one of these plans as an additional service to receive the points.

Thoughts

Qantas has had a few goes with various Telcos over the years, and it is good to see this new partnership. Overall, the points are good, if you are looking for a new SIM-Ony plan. There’s not a whole lot of other offers of 10 points per dollar around.
