The Aloft Perth opened close on two years ago, but until now I have not had the opportunity to stay there. I recently had a need for an overnight stay in the area, so thought I would check it out.
While it started out life under the Starwood banner, following the takeove of Starwood by Marriott, it has come across into the Marriott stable. As such, it participates in the Marrott Bonvoy program.
Aloft Perth Location
The Aloft Perth is located in Rivervale, a Perth suburb.
At first it sounds to be in an unusual location, but as the map shows, it is located between Perth Airport and the cities CBD. It’s location makes it just a short distance from the Crown Casino complex, and Optus Stadium.
You can walk from the hotel to either the casino or the stadium. Keep in mind that they are not exactly next door neighbours. For example, a walk from the hotel to the stadium would take 20 minutes or so.
Check-In
Check-in takes place on the ground floor, pretty much in the centre of the floor. Reception sit between the Aloft WXYZ bar in the world at one end, and Springs Kitchen at the other.
The Room
The Aloft Perth consists of 224 rooms over 18 floors. Of the various options available. I chose to book an Aloft King room. It was, after all, an overnight stay, and it was more about needing somewhere to sleep.
The is described as being 36sqm in size and features a sitting area, a 55 inch flatscreen tv, and a range of other features you may expect. What it doesn’t have is a mini-bar. It does have a mini-refrigerator, but it is pretty much empty.
In the end, I was assigned a room on Level 16. Not quite at the top of the hotel, but still a high room. Getting to the floor, there is little doubt that you are on the correct floor.
The room itself is well laid out. The interior designers have certainly done themselves proud with the layout and design.
Even better, for a hotel room, power points were easy to find. There was also a USB charging point to be found.
Lighting is often a bugbear of mine in hotel rooms. Fortunately, the Aloft Perth has lighting that is fairly easy to control, and you don’t spend a lot of time pushing buttons trying to work it out.
The bathroom features a shower with both a standard shower head, and a rain shower head. Toiletries are by Bliss.
Aloft Perth Breakfast
I had booked a room rate inclusive of breakfast. Breakfast is to be found at the Springs Kitchen, which is to the right of the reception area. This was a buffet, similar to that which you would expect from many hotels. There was the usual choice on offer. On the downside, barista made coffee was an extra charge. A common theme at many hotels now – brewed coffee is included, but Barista coffee is extra.
Other facilities
As always, there are a range of facilities at the hotel that I did not really get to use. Still, they are there, and if I had been staying longer than an overnight stop, I may have used them
w xyz Bar
First up, the w xyz Bar. This is pretty much the bar at the hotel. It features a range of cocktails, an extensive wine list, and generally all the beverages you would normally associate with a hotel bar.
Pool Area
Finally, the Aloft Perth has a lap pool. Small, but probably adequate for the task. It is an outdoor pool area, although it does seem awkwardly positioned.
Just indoor from the pool there is a bit of a recreational area. Here you can find a table tennis table, as well as a few other activities.
Final Thoughts on the Aloft Perth
In a lot of ways it’s not the best located hotel in Perth. But, if you have something to do in the area, it is definitely a decent place to stay.
If you need to wander further afield, then there is a good chance you’ll need a rental car.
