Adelaide Airport has announced a new project to expand the current terminal. In good news for Velocity members, Virgin Australia will be getting a new lounge.
Expanded International Terminal
The main focus of the $165 million development is the expansion of the current international facilities. This is aimed at improving the departure and arrival experience of international travellers.
As part of the upgrades there will be:
- a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals,
- more space for emigration and immigration processing,
- expanded security screening,
- a larger duty free precinct for arrivals and departures,
- expanded dining and retail options,
-
A new common user premium international lounge. (At present, the only dedicated international lounge is operated by Singapore Airlines.)
- New VIP facilities for international arrivals and departures
Gate 18 will become a permanent international gate. This is a change from its current setup where it can operate as both a domestic and international gate. The other international gates will continue to utilise Adelaide Airport’s swing gate system to allow both international and domestic operations.
New Virgin Australia Lounge
For domestic travel, there will be a new Virgin Australia lounge. While there is little information on this at present, it will hopefully be larger than the existing lounge. Virgin Australia have stated that they will provide more information in due course.
The following diagram shows the location of the new lounge.
