Cathay Pacific is increasing the number of Club Points its Marco Polo members earn on a variety of flights. Club Points are the Marco Polo equivalent of Status Credits. The number you earn determines your status level within the Marco Polo club.
The changes, coming into effect on December 8, 2017, will make it easier for some members to gain or retain status.
In addition, Cathay Pacific are making it easier for infrequent travelers to remain in the Marco Polo club. In order to remain in the Marco Polo club, you have needed to earn 100 Club Points in a year. This is being reduced to just 20 Club Points.
Club Points Changes
The following chart, published by Cathay Pacific outlines the changes.
In summary, the changes are:
- Regional Flights within Asia – Most tickets will see an increase in 5 or 10 Club Points earned
- Long Haul Flights – Long Haul, and Ultra Long Haul flyers in Premium Economy or Economy will see an increase in Club Points earn. Flights in this category include flights between Hong Kong and Europe or North America.
- Discounted Economy – Those in the cheap seats, will see an increase in the Club Points earn on all by short haul flights. The fares affected by this change are those that book into S, N or Q class.
For flights to and from Australia, it is only the Discount Economy fares that will see an increase in earnings. Being in the Medium-Long category, they will see a doubling in their Club Points earnings.
