Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong International Airport, and the Hong Kong Tourism Board are offering Australian travellers the chance to pick up a sponsored return trip to Hong Kong. The offer is part of the worldwide “World of Winners” promotion which is offering 500,000 tickets worldwide.
As part of the promotion, 6020 tickets are available from Australia. These tickets are spread across the airlines flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
The sponsors of the promotion are covering the base fare of the tickets. However, if you are lucky enough to get hold of a ticket, you will need to pick up the taxes, fees, and surcharges.
The tickets go on sale on 29 May, and will be available until 4 June (unless sold out earlier).
World of Winners Key Details
- Promotion: ‘World of Winners” – 6,020 sponsored return tickets to Hong Kong.
- Booking Dates: These tickets will be on sale from 12 pm AEST, Monday 29 May until 4 June (or until sold out)
- Travel Dates: You can travel any time between 29 May 2023 to 28 February 2024.
- Other conditions
- You must be a Cathay member in order to book a sponsored ticket
- Each Cathay member may only book one ticket under the offer. If you wish to book multiple tickets, each traveller will need to book separately
- Fares will be booked as ‘Economy Essential’ with a 2x 23kg luggage allowance.
- You can earn Asia Miles and Status Points on the fare (including crediting it to a partner program if you prefer). The seats are also upgradeable with Asia Miles, subject to availability. This offer depends on ‘O’ class fares being available.
- The promotional fare is non-transferable, non-reroutable and non-exchangeable. Rebooking the travel date will cost A$460 per transaction.
If you manage to get hold of one of these tickets, you will need to stay in Hong Kong for between 2 and 30 days.
Cathay Pacific is offering these in their ‘Economy Essentials’ family. These fares include regular seat selection and a checked baggage allowance of 2x 23kg bags. If you have enough Cathay miles, you can even put in an upgrade request.
There are, however, a few limitations that you may need to consider. The tickets are non-transferable and you cannot change the routing. You can rebook the travel date for a $460 fee.
Thoughts
It is worth keeping in mind that this is a global promotion, and has already run in other markets. One thing that could be learned from those markets is that the tickets sell out quickly, so I’d suggest getting in early.
