The installation of Premium Economy seats into Singapore Airlines A380 fleet has been delayed. As a result, they will be unable to offer Premium Economy on a number of services that had been sold with a Premium Economy cabin.
Announced earlier this year, a Premium Economy cabin is being installed into the A380 and long haul Boeing 777 fleet. The Boeing 777 fleet does not appear to have been impacted by this delay.
In a statement posted on the Singapore Airlines website, a revised schedule for the Premium Economy cabin has been published. In some cases, such as the SIngapore-London service, no date for the service to commence has been advised.
Overall, the effect on the rollout of Premium Economy is a affecting flights from September 8, through to March next year. As some routes do not currently have a start date for the Premium Economy service, it is possible that the overall delay may result in effects further down the track than March.
Closer to home, the Singapore-Sydney route was one of the early starters for the new cabin. According to the statement, this route will be affected between October 25 trhough to Januray 2.
Travellers already booked into Premium Economy on the affected flights “will be contacted progressively by Singapore Airlines or travel agents to offer alternative travel arrangements,” the airline noted.
