Earn Qantas Points on Airbnb Bookings

Qantas and Airbnb have just announced a new partnership offering Qantas Points. Under the partnership, Qantas Frequent Flyers stand to earn 1 Qantas Point per dollar spent.

The Airbnb platform can be used to book a range of accommodation such as share rooms, apartments and houses. When booking through this platform, Qantas members will be able to earn on any of Airbnb’s 2.5 million accommodation listings across 191 countries.

How it works

In order to earn Qantas Points, there are a few minor hoops to jump through. In particular, you must start from the Qantas Points site. If you go directly to the Airbnb site to make a booking, you won’t be eligible for points.

  1. You need to start at the the Qantas.com airbnb portal. You will also need to be logged in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. The portal will prompt you if you need to log in.
  2. From there, you will be redirected to airbnb.com.au to complete your booking.
  3. If you book a property where the price is not quoted in Australian Dollars, Airbnb will convert the price to Australian Dollars to determine the number of points you earn
  4. The name on the booking must match the name on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account
  5. You will earn 1 Qantas Point per Australian Dollar spent on the final value of the guest fees of your booking after any adjustments
  6. If you cancel the booking, then you won’t earn any points
  7. You can expect the points to be credited to your account up to 8 weeks after your stay

The earnings are not as generous as the 3 points per dollar that is available for hotel bookings. However, Airbnb does represent a growing sector of the accommodation industry. In partnering with Airbnb, Qantas is tapping into this expanding part of the economy. Presumably, it will allow it to collect even more data on its members.
