Earn Qantas Points at Hoyts

Hoyts has revamped its Hoyts Rewards program, and with it some changes to Qantas Points earning.

The new program has three levels, and Qantas Frequent Flyers earn points on all levels. In addition, new members linking their Hoyts Rewards acoount and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts will get bonus points for linking.

In addition to the points earning, there is some ability to redeem points at Hoyts for specific items.

Earning Points

Earning points at Hoyts is tied to being a member of Hoyts Rewards. Once you are a member, you can attach you Qantas Frequent Flyer numbers, and from them you will earn points each time you show your card while making a purchase. You simply need to ensure your card is swiped when buying a ticket, or a treat from the Candy Bar.

There is a slight complication in this. Hoyts Rewards comes in three levels. There is the free Standard level, and two paid levels. The membership tiers and their Qantas earning rates ate:

The Hoyts Rewards programs is mainly about the movies. So, in addition to the Qantas Points, there are additional benefits at the various levels.

Are paid memberships worth it?

An interesting question arises as to whether the paid memberships are worth it. Realistically, if your reason for joining is about the Qantas Points, then perhaps not.

However, the Hoyts Rewards program is really about going to the movies. And its there that you should really look for value – any extra Qantas Points are just a bonus.

Having said that, Plus members get 4 times as many Qantas Points as a standard member. Similarly, Premium members can look forward to 6 times as many points.

Using Points at Hoyts

The other side of the coin is in using points. Hoyts give you the option to use 4,000 Qantas Points to get $20 off a movie ticket.

This gives a value of 0.5 cents for each of your points. This is toward to bottom end of the valuation for points. There are many better options for using your points out there,

Summary

Overall, then, if you go to the movies, then siging up for the free Hoyts Rewards Standard membership is worthwhile. If you go often enough, then you can look at the Plus or Premium memberships.

On the other hand, using points at Hoyts is on the lower end of the valuation scale, and you’d normally be better off payng cash.
