If you’re going to eating out, wouldn’t it be good to get a discount on your meal, and earn points while you’re at it? The good news is that you can do this at Marriott International hotels, across Australia and South East Asia.
In order to be able to take advantage of this, you simply need to be a Marriott Bonvoy member. And given that membership in the program is free, it could be a bit of a no-brainer.
Marriott offers a range of food experiences at its hotels. Firstly, there is a range of packages that offer breakfasts, dining credits, and more.
Even better, there is an opportunity to get discounts and earn points even when you are not staying in-house. You can take advantage of the offers simply by showing your card.
Marriott packages for foodies
There are a number of hotel deals offering food experiences. For example, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort on the Gold Coast offers a Garden Tea Party. This package includes a Daily Breakfast and a Signature High Tea Experience.
The Westin Melbourne is offering an Indulge Package, which included breakfast in bed, and a bottle of Chandon and Strawberries on arrival.
Meanwhile, in the west, the Four Points by Sheraton in Perth is offering a Rise and Shine Offer. This package includes breakfast for two daily.
You can always look for the latest deals on offer at Marriott hotels through their dedicated offer page.
Marriott Restaurants and Bars benefits
Discount
It’s not just package offers, Marriott offers Bonvoy members discounts when dining across Asia Pacific. Under the offer, participating restaurants will provide a discount to members whether or not they are staying in the hotel or not. In addition, members that are staying in-house can still charge the discounted amount to their room.
The discount on offer varies based on your Marriott Bonvoy status and ranges from 10% up to 20%. The following table shows the standard discount on offer at the different status levels.
Marriott Bonvoy Status | Restaurant and Bar Discount |
---|---|
Member | 10% |
Silver | 10% |
Gold | 15% |
Platinum | 20% |
Titanium | 20% |
Ambassador | 20% |
There are a few rules to keep in mind. Firstly, one that could trip up a few people is that the discount is not applicable to breakfast. In addition, it may not apply to seasonal or promotional meals. Finally, the discount is only applicable for tables of up to ten guests.
In order to receive the discount, you will need to make sure that it is done when settling the bill – even if you are charging to the room. If you are staying in-house, you may not be able to get the bill adjusted at check-ou, so make sure you have it applied before charging to your room.
Earning Points
The second part of the offer is to allow you to earn points at restaurants and bars, even when you are not staying at the hotel. This is a simpler offer, as it is a straight 10 Marriott Bonvoy Points per 1 US dollar equivalent spent at the bar or restaurant. There is no bonus for having any level of elite status, everyone gets the same number of points.
There is one minor restriction in that you have to spend at least US$10 (excluding taxes, gratuities, and service charges). Having said that, in most cases achieving that minimum spend probably won’t be too much of an issue.
Keep in mind with these points is that they can take a while to post to your account. For example, I recently dined with friends at the Hearth Restaurant in The Ritz-Carlton Perth, and the points took about a month to post. Having said that, they always do seem to post, it can just take a while.
Participating Restaurants
The offer is not available at every restaurant at every hotel, so it pays to check in advance whether the restaurant or bar you have in mind participates or not. Fortunately, Marriott International has put together a website where you can look up the offers at the range of hotels across Asia-Pacific.
On the page, you can search by location to get an idea of which restaurants and bars are participating in this offer. For example, if you searched for Perth in Australia, you would get the following results:
From that page, you can select a restaurant or bar to see details specific to that restaurant or bar.
Thoughts
Discounts and Points are always a good thing in my view. And when you can get them simply by being a member of a program even better.
I have taken advantage of this program several times, and find there is little to lose by taking advantage of it. You do need to be a Marriott Bonvoy member, but as said, that is free.
