I was poking around my GHA Discovery account today and spotted something interesting — a bunch of my Discovery Dollars now show an expiry date of 30 September 2026. A little digging revealed why: GHA has put a pause on D$ expiration until then.
It’s a nice surprise, especially if you’ve been watching your balance slowly inch toward expiry. And given their expiration policy, it is something that needs to be closely managed.
I couldn’t find anything about this on the website, so off to google. A bit of googling revealed that they have updated the Terms and Conditions of the program to reflect this change. The specific update is
Due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, GHA DISCOVERY is extending the validity of all D$ that were set to expire between 28 February 2026 and 30 September 2026 for all members. These D$ will now remain valid until September 30, 2026. This is a one-time discretionary extension in response to current travel disruptions and does not constitute a permanent amendment to the GHA DISCOVERY Terms & Conditions. All other programme rules remain in effect.
That basically means that for now, everything’s on hold, giving members a bit of breathing room before the usual rules kick back in.
Part of me was surprised by this move. However, GHA Discovery is based in the Middle East. As such, it probably felt compelled to do something, especially as other loyalty programs in the region are making moves.
Final Words
GHA Discovery has a bit of a reputation for being pretty aggressive when it comes to Discovery Dollar expiry.. Depending on your tier, standard dollars expire between 12 and 24 months after you earn them. Promotional and bonus Discovery Dollars can have even shorter expiration times. And they expire based on when you earn them – there’s no resetting the clock like many other programs.
So it’s good to see them relax these rules to an extent. That said, we are probably just seeing the first moves from the Middle East programs. If the events continue on for an extended period, they may need to consider even more.
But for now, it has eased some need for me to redeem some expire D$.
