Hilton HHonors has extended its Double Your HHonors promotion. Originally set to finish on 31 May, the end date of the promotion has now been moved to August 31, 2015.
Double Points or Double Miles?
To recap, the promotion which kicked off in March, offered a choice of either Double Hilton HHonors points, or, if you double dipped with an airline partner, you could elect to earn Double Miles in the airline program of your choice.
The trick was that you only had one opportunity to make your choice. Once you elected double points or double miles, you were locked in for the period of the promotion.
The earning rate under the promotion varies depending on the option chosen, and your current double dip option.
Points + Points
If your double dip option is Points + Points, you would ordinarily earn 10 base points + 5 bonus points for each US dollar spent. Under the double points promotion, the base points would be doubled, thus in total you would earn 25 points per dollar.
Points + Miles
If your double dip option is set to Points + Miles, then you could choose either option for the promotion.
If you choose Double Points, then the base points will double to 20 Points per dollar, and the standard miles double dip payout would stay. If, on the other hand, you choose Double Miles, then you will stay at the 10 base Points per US Dollar, and the double dip of airline miles is doubled, For most airlines, this is 1 mile per dollar, which would be doubled to 2 miles per dollar. Virgin Australia’s Velocity program gets a higher payout – as standard the HHonors double dip pays 2 miles per dollar. Under the bonus promotion, this would become 4 miles per dollar.
All hotels to participate
There is one signigficant change to the promotion when June 1 rolls around, and that is that all hotels will begin participating in the promotion. This is quite a change from many past Hilton HHonors promotions, where there have generally be fairly lengthy lists of hotels that had elected not to participate. Indeed, this particular promotion had over 700 non particating properties up until June 1.
While the current promotion did not have any local exclusions, in the past hotels such as Hilton South Wharf in Melbourne, or Hilton Sydney have appeared on the non-participating lists. Hopefully, that all hotels are particating in this round is a sign that future promotions will also not have exclusions.
