Earlier this year, Hilton Honors announced that it would extend members’ elite status for a year. Now they have gone a step further, announcing that every elite qualifying night earned 2020 will roll over into 2021.
As a result, all elite nights in 2020 will count to both your Hilton elite tiers status for 2021 or 2022. Or put another way, your elite status in 2022 (through to March 2023) could be determined by your stays in both 2020 and 2021.
For example, let’s say that you have end this year with 10 elite qualifying nights. These nights will roll over into next year, and you will start off the 2021 year with those 10 nights. This opens up the possibility of earning your status for 2022 over two years.
It is an interesting development and continues the recent trend of hotels looking for ways to encourage stays this year. For example, Accor has previously announced that nights in the second half of the year will roll over into 2021.
Hilton has taken this one step further – nights earned over the entire year will roll into next year. As far as I know, this is the only program that will roll over nights earned in 2020 into next year.
Thoughts
Of all the hotel programs, Hilton Honors has been among the most pro-active in taking steps to protect members’ status. They were one of the early starters in giving an extension, and now they are one of the leaders in rolling over nights into next year.
Of course, this gives them a benefit in encouraging stays this year. And with all the restrictions that are still in place, this seems like a win-win.
