Holiday Inn returns to Cairns

The Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a deal that will see the Holiday Inn name return to Cairns.  IHG has has signed a management agreement with Taisei Kanko Australia Pty Limited for the 173-room Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside.

The hotel currently operates as the Mercure Cairns Harbourside  and will undergo a refurbishment before opening as a Holiday Inn later this year. It will become the eleventh Holiday Inn hotel in the country.

The hotel is located at the northern end of The Esplanade in Cairns, and is in close proximity to Cairns Airport, and a short distance from the Cairns waterfront and harbour. It is a 10 minute walk from the Cairns CBD. As a result of its location, IHG are spruiking its benefits for both the leisure and business traveller.

Families will be able to benefit from the Holiday Inn brand’s Kids Eat & Stay Free programme, which offers children all-inclusive meals during their stay. Guests can also make use of the hotel’s pool and spa, or unwind with signature cocktails from IHG’s BAR150 programme, launched to mark 150 years of mixology.
For the business traveller, the Holiday Inn will provide a range of facilities including four meeting rooms and a 24-hour business centre.
The Holiday Inn previously had a presence in Cairns, however the previous property converted into the Doubletree by Hilton last year.
For IHG, it represents another new hotel for Australia, with other upcoming hotels including  a Crowne Plaza in Tasmania and an InterContinental in Perth.
