Sorrento’s Continental Hotel will become the InterContinental Sorrento following an agreement between IHG and the building owners. Opening in November, it will give IHG Rewards and Ambassador members a new option in the Mornington Peninsula.
Intercontinental Sorrento
The 145 year-old Hotel Intercontinental will undergo a restoration during 2021. Once completed, the Intercontinental Sorrento will swing its doors open. The restored hotel will feature 106 guestrooms, many of which will have water views.
On the dining front, IHG says they will soon be announcing a high-profile chef partnership for the signature restaurant. The hotel will also be home to five other dining and bar outlets.
In addition, the hotel will feature a sprawling wellness centre incorporating a luxury bathhouse, an outdoor pool, gym, and three function and event spaces. The Continental Hotel’s iconic grand ballroom will be restored catering for corporate and social events.
The Hotel Continental
Hotel Continental first opened in 1875 and was the brainchild of actor, philanthropist and businessman, George Coppin. Coppin’s vision was to create a tourism and cultural heart for the Peninsula where Melburnians and tourists could enjoy a premium seaside resort only a few hours from the city.
When InterContinental Sorrento opens in time for summer 2021/22, the beachside glitz, glamour and sophistication of yesteryear will return. Once again, the hotel will be one of the state’s most captivating and in-demand luxury hotels.
IHG Rewards
The arrival of the Intercontinental Sorrento will bring new options for IHG Rewards and Ambassador members. For IHG Rewards members, it will bring a new option for earning and burning points. Ambassador members should find new options for taking advantage of their membership. Depending on how pricing works out, it could make a good option for the free weekend night certificate.
