HG Hotels & Resorts is adding a new hotel to its Perth portfolio with the upcoming Holiday Inn Express Cockburn. This brand‑new hotel set to open later this year in partnership with SKS Group.
This 170‑room property is part of a mixed‑use development currently rising in Cockburn. Think modern hotel tower, separate residential tower, and a location that puts you right in the middle of some of the area’s biggest economic and innovation hubs.
Why Cockburn?
For those not in the know, Cockburn (pronounced “Co-burn”) is a fast‑growing area about 26 km south of Perth’s CBD. It’s location puts it close to
- Australian Marine Complex, a major centre for defence and shipbuilding, and
- Murdoch Medical Precinct, which is quickly becoming a powerhouse for health, education and tech
Holiday Inn Express – The Brand
Holiday Inn Express is IHG’s fastest‑growing “essential brand”, with more than 3,275 hotels open worldwide, and hundreds more on the way. The idea is simple: give travellers the essentials done really well. Comfortable rooms, great showers, and a solid breakfast.
IHG One Rewards
And if you’re an IHG One Rewards member, this is another spot to earn and redeem points. IHG has been expanding across Australasia & the Pacific, and with 11 Holiday Inn Express hotels already open in the region, Cockburn is joining a strong lineup. More hotels mean more flexibility and more chances to stretch your points further.
Final Words
This is a development that’s had a bit of a history. When I first heard about it, the plan was to become a Hampton Inn by Hilton. That was back when SKS were developing the two Perth DoubleTree hotels. Later renders of the hotel show that it was going to be under the ‘fives’ brand.
