IHG Rewards has joined other programs in extending elite status for another year. In the case of IHG Rewards, they have announced that they will be extending elite status through to February 2023. In addition, IHG will also continue to pause the expiration of points until 31 December 2022.

Status Extension

IHG Rewards will be extending the status of its elite members through to February 2023. So, if you are Gold, Platinum, or Spire you will have this extended. IHG has said this should be reflected in members’ accounts over the next few weeks.

Points Expiration

As with a number of programs, IHG rewards has a points expiration policy. While they don’t expire points of elite members, base members need to have some activity in their account every 12 months.

For these base members, IHG Rewards will not be expiring any points until 31 December 2022. This gives such members extra time to earn or burn points.

Night Rollover

This may not affect so many people this year, but IHG will be rolling over some nights earned in 2021 into 2022. However, they say that this will only be the nights above the threshold required for your status level.

Thoughts

It’s good to see this extension from IHG Rewards, although I find the extension through to February 2023 a little unusual. Last year’s extension took status through until January 2022, so I am not sure why they went with a 13-month extension.
