Jetstar has announced that it will begin flights between the Gold Coast and Seoul from December 8, 2019. Operating three times a week, Jetstar will operate the route using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
Interestingly, Jetstar will operate the flight in a codeshare partnership with Jeju Air. Jeju Air is a South Korean low cost carrier that operates a number of domestic and international services.
Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans said South Korea had the potential to quickly become one of the most popular Asian destinations for Australian travelers.
“By introducing low fares to Seoul, we expect that South Korea will be a country that jumps to the top of many Australian travellers’ bucket lists,” Mr Evans said.
“Seoul and its surrounding regions offer visitors the opportunity to explore South Korea’s rich cultural history, vibrant nightlife and food scene.”
Mr Evans said it’s expected that demand for inbound flights to Australia from South Korea will also be strong.
Two Korean airlines currently fly direct to Australia: Asiana and Korean Air both have services between Sydney to Seoul, and Korean Air flies from Brisbane to Seoul as well.
Jetstar’s Dreamliners have 314 economy seats arranged in a 3-3-3 layout, and 21 reclining business class seats in a 2-3-2 layout.
The timetable for the new service, commencing December 8 is as follows
Flight # | Frequency | From | To | Depart | Arrive |
JQ49 | Wednesday, Friday, Sunday | Gold Coast | Seoul | 1320 | 2200 |
JQ50 | Wednesday, Friday, Sunday | Seoul | Gold Coast | 2330 | 0945+1 |
Those looking to redeem Qantas Points for flights in the service may have to wait a little. At the time of writing there were no Reward Seats available to be booked.
