Jetstar Platinum Mastercard Qantas Points earn rate being cut

0

The Jetstar Platinum Mastercard has become the latest card to announce a cut in its Qantas Points earning. From May 7 2018, the earnings on the card will become a flat 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar.

Other Macquarie Bank issued cards have had their earnings rates cut over the last few months. A reduction in the earn rate on the Macquarie Platinum Card with Qantas Rewards came into effect on March 15.  A similar round of cuts to to the Woolworths Qantas Platinum Card comes into effect on April 1.

Jetstar Platinum Mastercard Earning Changes

Under the announced changes, the earn rate on the Jetstar Platinum Mastercard will be reducing to a flat 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar. This compares with the current earn rate of 1 Qantas Point per dollar on the first $2,500 reducing to 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar for spend above $2,500.

Doing the calculations, this could result in a significant reduction in point earn. Depending on your spend, this could be a reduction of 1,250 Qantas Points per month.

There is no change to earnings if you collect Jetstar Dollars. This remains at 1 Jetstar Dollar per $50 spend on the first $2,500 spend per month, and then 1 Jetstar Dollar per $100 on spend above $2,500.

As a result of the change, both Jetstar Cards offer the same Qantas Points earn rate. For the Qantas Points collector, there are better cards in the market.
