Krisflyer changes to accrual rates, upgrades and award fees

    MarkBy MarkDecember 17, 2017No Comments3 Mins Read

Krisflyer has announced a series of changes to accrual rates and the number of points required for upgrades. In addition, there have been a number of changes to service fees associated with award bookings.

The changes were made in conjunction with changes to the fare families and come into effect at the same time.

    KrisFlyer Changes

    Accrual Rates

Krisflyer are adjusting the accrual rates on a number of the fares, across all cabins. The following table shows the new accrual rates, in comparison to the current accruals.

While there are increases in some accrual rates, there are decreases in others. Generally, passengers travelling in either the First or Business cabins will stay the same or increase. Premium Economy sees an increase if booking the more expensive fares, and a decrease if booking the discounted fares.

In Economy, there is an increase of 10% to 50% for the deeply discounted fare buckets of K and V. No more 10%! On the other hand, travellers in the Standard family (M,H,W) will see a decrease from 100% to 75% of miles flown.

Cabin Fare Class Family Current Accrual Rate New Accrual Rate
    First/Suites F,A  First/Suites 150% 200%
    Business Z,C,J  Flex 125% 150%
    U  Standard 125% 125%
    D  Lite 125% 125%
    Premium Economy S,T  Flex 110% 125%
    P  Standard 110% 100%
    Economy B,E,Y  Flex 100% 100%
    M,H,W  Standard 100% 75%
    L  – 100% –
    N,Q  Lite 50% 50%
    K,V  Lite 10% 50%

    Upgrade Award changes

Krisflyer have published new Upgrade Award charts on their website. This has become more complicated, as there are differing requirements depending on the fare family of the ticket you are upgrading.

By and large, the number of points remains the same. There is a bit of a sting for some passengers. Premium Economy Standard and Business Lite fares will no longer be eligible for redemption upgrades.

    Service Fee Changes

Krisflyer are also taking the opportunity to introduce or increase fees on a number of services related to award bookings. From 1 March 2018, the fees for changes or cancellations to your award tickets and flight upgrades on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and our partner airlines will be revised.
