KrisFlyer offers up to 50% off Silkair redemptions

KrisFlyer is offering the opportunity to redeem awards on SilkAir flights at a discount of up to 50% off the usual number of points required.

For KrisFlyer, this is a generous promotion, that happens once or twice a year. If you have travels coming up around the region serviced by SilkAir, there may be decent redemption options to be had.

SilkAir

Silkair is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, and  serves as its regional wing. It operates a number of regional routes with a fleet of narrow body Boeing 737 aircraft. Typically, it operates sectors where there is not enough demand for one of the larger Singapore Airlines wide body jets.

It operates both business and economy cabins, and the service onboard is comparable to the 737s in the Qantas or Virgin Australia fleets.

In the case of Australia, SilkAir operates services to Cairns and Darwin from Singapore. The parent company, Singapore Airlines services the larger Australian cities.

Current Promotion

The key details of the current promotion are:

• Book Period: by 11 July 2017
• Travel Period: 1 July to 31 October 2017
• Restrictions: No date changes permitted
• Eligible Flights:
  • The discount applies to both Economy and Business Class redemptions
  • You can select either one way or return flights
  • Note that if you do a return journey, with one flight outside the eligible travel period, you may lose the discount for the entire journey

In order to redeem, KrisFlyer provides the following instructions:

1. Log in to your KrisFlyer account with your KrisFlyer membership number and PIN at the top right corner of this page.
2. Select ‘Book a Flight’ on your dashboard
3. Click ‘Redeem flights’ and select your travel details.

The discount is automatically applied if you redeem during the eligibility period.

Destinations

The promotion is valid for most destinations on the SilkAir network. The terms and promotion state that the discount is for selected services, although they do give quite an extensive list. There may be some specific flights that are not included, so you should refer to their guide on the promotion page.

For Australia, both Darwin and Cairns are represented in the eligible list. The valid flights are shown in the following table.
