Le Club AccorHotels has announced it is closing down the Places by Le Club AccorHotels App. The App awarded members points and badges for performing Virtual Check-ins while staying in a participating hotel.
Timeline
If you have not already registered with the App, then you are out of luck. Accor has shut off new registrations to the App. They will also be withdrawing the App from the App stores, so members will no longer be able to install the App.
However, if you are already registered with the App, you have 6 more months to collect points and badges. Members will lost access to the App on 28 May. This means that the last check-in you can perform will be on 28 May.
While you will lose access to the App, Accor will continue to process the check-ins and award badges.
Having said that many maintenance tasks have stopped. For example, they will not be adding any new hotels that join the AccorHotels network. In addition, they will not be adding any new badges. For the most part, what is there now is all that will ever be there.
Thoughts
The Places by Le Club AccorHotels App has been a nice little earner for me over the years. But to be fair, I have probably earned all the badges and points that I am likely to ever earn from the App.
It was a good idea for its time, but with the changeover to ALL, it seems Accor felt its time has come. With a bit of luck, Accor may add something to the ALL platform.
