This morning, I received an email from Qatar Airways announcing the launch of Privilege Club Pro. This is a subscription program offering bonus Avios (and even Qpoints in the top tier) to Privilege Club members. There are four subscription plans available, each of which can be paid on an annual or monthly basis.
In this article, I will dive into the plan to see if the offer any value.
Privilege Club Pro Subscriptions
There are four options available as follows (prices are in AUD):
- Access:
- $80 per month, or $799 per year
- 2,500 Avios per month (30,000 Avios per year).
- 2.6 cents per Avios (based on annual payment)
- Select:
- $208 per month, or $2,076 per year
- 7,500 Avios per month (90,000 per year)
- 2.3 cents per Avios (based on annual payment)
- Exclusive:
- $383 per month, or $3,833 per year
- 15,000 Avios per month (180,000 per year)
- 2.1 cents per Avios (based on annual payment)
- Ultimate + QPoints:
- $559 per month, or $5,590 per year
- 20,000 Avios + 5 Qpoints per month (240,000 Avios + 60 QPoints per year)
- 2.3 cents per Avios (based on annual payment)
There’s a few of things to note here. The plans can be paid either on a monthly or annual basis. The annual fee works out to be the equivalent of 10 months of payment. So there is a discount for the annual plans.
Secondly, the Exclusive plan delivers the lowest price per Avios. However, the Ultimate + QPoints level adds 60 QPoints per year, which have some value if you are chasing status. QPoints are used by Qatar Airways to determine your status.
For some perspective on those 60 QPoints, you need 150 QPoints to get to Silver, 300 QPoints for Gold, and 600 Qpoints for Platinum.
Buying QPoints
The obvious point of comparison is with Buying Avios. As with many programs, Privilege Club is willing to sell you points. Even better, from time to time they offer some bonus or discount. Typically, during one of these offers, you can get Avios in the same ballpark at around 2.3c per point.
Final Words
Privilege Club Pro is an interesting subscription program, although you would need to be wanting a constant feed of points. I am not one for buying points speculatively. That said, they do provide a reasonable discount off the normal price Qatar sell them for. However, they are on a par with the price you can get them at during a promotional offer.
