Qantas announces new First Lounge for Singapore (opens late 2019)

If you’ve been to the Qantas Lounge in Singapore this year, you may have noticed how busy it has become. So much so, that, at times, Qantas have been redirecting Qantas Club members to other lounges.

This follows Qantas switching from Dubai to Singapore as its stopover point for flights to London since March this year. This has seen the return of the A380 aircraft to Singapore, which has put pressure on the lounge.

To overcome these problems, Qantas has announced plans to build a new First Lounge at Singapore’s Changi. This will be  its fourth dedicated First Lounge offering, and the second outside of Australia. It currently operated First Lounges in  Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles.

At the same time, the existing lounge is set to be expanded, and be renamed the Business Lounge.

First Lounge

The new Singapore First Lounge will cater for 240 passengers, and will feature designs and menus in keeping with the expectations of a First Lounge.

The airline will continue its partnerships with chef Neil Perry and industrial designer David Caon, in collaboration with Akin Atelier. The lounge will be designed to cater to the needs of a high volume of transitting passengers.

Opening in late 2019, it will offer shower facilities, a cocktail bar, open kitchen and menu offerings reflecting the best of Singapore’s dining culture.

Business Lounge

The current lounge will be expanded and renamed the Business Lounge. This lounge will be able to cater to more than 500 passengers.

Overall lounge capacity in Singapore will increase by 60%. This should go some way to alleviating the current crowded situation that exists from time to time. We will need to wait until the end of next year, but the results should be worth the wait.
