Qantas has announced a direct seasonal flight between Sydney to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport. The new flight reflects strong demand for flights to Japan’s snowfields. This flight will be the only nonstop connection between the two cities.
Sapporo will become the airline’s 100th destination, with flights to commence just in time for the peak ski season. Services will operate three times per week from 15 December 2025 to 28 March 2026, with the airline’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft and offer more than 20,000 seats on the route across the northern ski season.
The Qantas Airbus A330-200 feature 27 business class suites with lie-flat beds and direct aisle access. In addition, they have 228 economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout. Unfortunately, the A330-200 does not feature Premium Economy, you just have Business or Economy.
Schedule
Qantas are putting on flight QF107 three times a week – on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. These will have a morning departure out of Sydney, with a 10 hour and 50 minute estimated flight time. That will have the flight arriving in Sapporo in the early evening. This will enable same-day travel to popular ski resorts Niseko, Furano, Rusutsu and Kiroro.
On the return journey, skiers will also be able to enjoy a morning on the slopes before departing for Sydney in the evening.
In addition to the snow fields, the new Qantas flights will coincide with the week-long Sapporo Snow Festival. This festival is held every every February and features incredible ice sculptures.
Qantas previously flew between Sydney and Sapporo in early 2020, prior to the global pandemic. Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace says
We know Sapporo is an extremely popular winter destination for Aussies who love the snow, and we’re excited to make it even easier for them to reach Hokkaido’s world-class ski resorts with a direct flight from Sydney,
These new flights will save passengers hours of travel time compared to connecting in Tokyo or other cities and give them more time to enjoy the slopes.
