Qantas Frequent Flyer has announced that it is closing down the Qantas Restaurants program. In a brief note it advises
Due to changes in the program, from 1st January 2019 you will no longer be able to book a table or earn points via Qantas Restaurants. You can book a table up until 31st December 2018 and dine until 31st January 2019.
Once the program is closed, the main way of earning Qantas Points through dining will be via the Rockpool relationship. This consists of about 60 establishments across Australia, at a range of price points.
Over the few years that it has been running, it has been a nice little earner. Not big points, but a steady trickle. It is not clear exactly what is meant by ‘changes to the program’. We may find out next year.
What is Qantas Restaurants?
The Qantas Restaurant program is a program run in conjunction with Dimmi. The program provides a flat 100 points per diner, in bookings made through the Qantas restaurant site.
Velocity runs a similar service, utilizing the BookAResturant.com service. The Velocity program offers 300 Velocity Rewards points per booking, rather than the 100 Qantas Points per diner offered by this program.
The different structure (number of diners in the booking versus per booking rate), may make the Qantas Restaurant program more valuable when there are multiple diners, but conversely less valuable when dining alone.
