Qantas has rolled out a surprise and somewhat unexpected promotion. It’s a new promotion offering Double Status Credits or Double Points. Unlike the previous promotion, this one is a little more restrictive on the flight options. It only applies to domestic or Trans-Tasman flights. Even so, that will be enough for most people.
It’s no surprise this deal is an eagerly awaited promotion from Qantas. Earning double Status Credits makes it far easier to reach Qantas elite status, effectively cutting the usual flying requirements in half. On the other hand, if you are done chasing status credits, you have the option of taking more points.
To jump on this offer, you need to activate the deal in the Qantas App or on the website by choosing which bonus you want. Then, just book any new Qantas flights between 5 May 2026 and 11 May 2026.

Some Conditions
The offers applies to domestic and trans-Tasman flights. However, you need to book an eligible flight to get the Double Status Credits or Points. Eligible flights are Qantas marketed and operated. That means you need to book a flight under a ‘QF’ flight number and travel on a Qantas aircraft. For the purposes of this promotion, they include flights on QantasLink.
This means that other flights are ineligible for the offer. Ineligible flights include any codeshares on Jetstar, Air New Zealand, or any other Qantas partner airline. If you book and fly on one of these flights, you will not earn your double status or double points (depending on your choice)
There are a few things to be aware of if you choose Double Status Credits.
- Firstly, there is good news for Points Club members. The double status credits will apply to Classic Rewards flights taken by Points Club members.
- Secondly, it is worth noting that the bonus Status Credits only count toward your annual status requirements. For example, they do not count toward Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward, and Status Accelerator/Challenge earn requirements. Having said that, to gain (or retain) Silver, Gold, or Platinum levels, you are good to go.
Status Credits or Points
This all begs the question of whether to go for Double Status Credits or Double Points.
If you’re aiming to climb to a higher status tier, or just hang on to the one you’ve already got, this deal could give you the boost you need. Take Platinum, for example. Normally you’d need 1,400 Status Credits from scratch, but with this promo you could earn 700 and then get another 700 as the bonus, which gets you all the way to Platinum. Under usual circumstances, that same effort would only land you Gold.
On the flip side, if a handful of extra Status Credits won’t really move the needle for you, maybe you’re nowhere near the next tier and don’t plan on flying much more, then doubling your points might be the smarter pick.
Thoughts
Judging by the number of times the question is asked on social media, Double Status Credits is probably one of the most anticipated promotions on the Qantas calendar. Having said that, it is not for everyone, and the option of double points may suit some people better.
