Qantas has announced it will be extending Qantas Club memberships by six months. This follows the closure of the Qantas Club network, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, a range of Qantas Club invitations will also have their validity extended by six months.
Qantas Club Membership Extension
The six-month extension of Qantas Club membership will apply to any Qantas Club member that had an active paid account on 23 March 2020. The extension will apply to any member that has an expiry date between 23 March 2020, and February 2024. This rather long period results from Qantas selling memberships for up to 4 years.
If you have a complimentary membership, this extension will not apply.
There are some slight variations in the process for the extension. Qantas will automatically renew all memberships that expire in March, April or May 2020. For other members, Qantas will extend the membership by six months.
Either way, the additional 6 months will be processed by the end of May 2020 and will be reflected in members accounts at that time,
Complimentary Lounge Invitations
Qantas is also extending the validity of most Complimentary Lounge Invitations. You may have received one of these from an eligible credit card. Qantas will process these extensions during April, and you will be able to see the new expiry date online.
While Qantas will be extending most invitations, there are some exceptions. Firstly. for silver Qantas Frequent Flyers, a new invitation is being provided as part of their one-year extension. The original Invitation will not be extended.
The other main exception is for members that have received an Invitation through Points Club. As these are fairly new, they already have an expiry date in 2021.
At this point, Virgin Australia has not provided details of any extensions it will be offering to its members.
