Qantas has annound a range of changes to the fees that it charges for advance seat selection on its international services.The changes, to come into effect on 23 September, affect the economy fares that will require a fee to be paid, and also the level of fee that will be levied.
This will remove the fee charged for seat selection for the majority of economy fares on international services.
Affected Fares
From 23 September 2015, Qantas will be removing the $25 charge for Seat Selection for International Economy Saver and Flex fares. The result of this change, is that a fee for seat selection will only be charged for ‘sale’ fares.
There is, however, a cathc for those that have made a seat selection before 23 September – Qantas won’t be providing a refund. However, if you do maje a change to such a seat selection, there may be an adjustment to the fee, due to the increase that is applied in some cases.
This change is aimed at standard seat selection. There will be no change made to the selection of ‘extra legroom’ seats, and they will continue to be charged at the same rate as present.
Pricing changes
As part of the changes, there are also revisions to the fees that will be levied. The changes are:
- For Trans-Tasman flights the Seat Selection charge will change from $25 to $15;
- For all other international flights the Seat Selection charge will change from $25 to $30.
After these changes take effect, Seat Selection will still be complimentary for passengers:
- Travelling on any Qantas operated domestic service (except extra legroom seats on trans-continental)
- Travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy cabins;
- Platinum One, Platinum, Gold or Silver Frequent Flyers
- Emerald, Ruby or Sapphire oneworld Frequent Flyers;
- On the same booking and travelling with any passenger meeting the above requirements
- Checking in within 24 hours of departure.
