It’s a case of ‘I didn’t see that coming’ with Qantas announcing flights between Perth and Busselton. The new flights are starting on 27 June 2025, initially operating three days a week.
The new services are being introduced in time for the Australian winter school holidays seasons. In addition, they will be in place in time for the spring whale migration season.
The Qantas group have slowly been increasing their operations into Busselton. Currently, low cost offshoot Jetstar operates flights from both Sydney and Melbourne to the southwest town. Indeed, in announcing the new service, Qantas has pointed to the success of these services.
Rachel Yangoyan, CEO QantasLink said
We’re committed to supporting regional tourism and are thrilled to be growing our regional network by launching a new route into the spectacular Margaret River.
Famous for its wineries, crystal clear waters and whale watching, these new flights are set to make the region even more accessible for Australians and international holidaymakers travelling through Perth.

Final Words
As I mentioned at the outset, I didn’t see this coming. Perth is only about a 2 and a half hour drive away. Because of this short distance, I don’t see much demand from Perth residents. Busselton is also a distance from Margaret River and a lot of the other attractions.
That said, it is good for visitors connecting from other cities. For example, it gives folk from Adelaide or Brisbane a choice to get to the Margaret River region.
