Qantas is joining the ranks of airlines offering scenic flights to nowhere. On 10 October, Qantas will be flying a 7-hour scenic flight beginning and ending in Sydney.
The flight will operate on a 787, and do a flypast of a number of iconic tourist destinations. Departing from Sydney, the flight will head up into Queensland, and past the Gold Coast while heading up to the Great Barrier. From there, the flight will head inland across to the Northern Territory. Once there, you will fly past Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Finally, you will head back to Sydney, flying over Sydney Harbour.
Tickets
Tickets go on sale at midday on 17 September, and only a limited number are available. There is some good news for Grounded Frequent Flyers. Anyone taking the flight will be in for a serve of Frequent Flyer Points and Status Credits.
The tickets that are available are
- Six business seats will be available at $3,787 each (earning 10,000 Qantas Points and 160 Status Credits)
- 24 premium economy seats will be available at $1,787 each (earning 5,000 Qantas Points and 80 Status Credits)
- 104 economy seats will be available for $787 (earning 2,400 Qantas Points and 40 Status Credits)
The Day
Qantas is offering a few extra benefits on top of the flight. These benefits will help those that have missed flying feel more at home.
Firstly, the days kicks off at 8 am with breakfast in the Sydney Business Lounge. From there, you will board the flight in time for a 10:30 am departure. Onboard the flight, you will be treated to a Neil Perry lunch menu. Flyers will also receive a pair of Qantas Pyjamas and a commemorative certificate.
Finally, the flight will return to Sydney at around 5:30 pm.
Thoughts
It could be an interesting flight for many – especially those that have found themselves grounded for a few months. With a bit of luck, they will be able to offer members in other states a similar flight.
