Qantas running Big Points Sale – 20% off a range of products

    MarkBy MarkOctober 16, 2020No Comments3 Mins Read

Qantas Frequent Flyer has kicked off a Big Points Sale. The sale kicks off on Friday 16 October and runs for 4 days. This gives you the weekend to browse the specials on offer.

    What’s on Offer?

The Big Points Sale offers discounts on a range of products and services, such as flights, hotels, car hire, and wine. Let’s take a look at the offers.

20% off domestic Points Plus Pay flights

First up, Qantas are offering 20% off domestic Points Plus Pay flights. As a reminder, these aren’t normal Award seats. They are really just normal paid tickets – you just use your points instead of cash. While they aren’t always great value in comparison to Award flights, they can be useful.

Qantas gives an example of a Points Plus Pay flight from Sydney to Adelaide. Normally, this would be 33,3000 points, but during the sale, you can book a ticket for 26,600 points. While this is more than a normal award ticket (12,000 points), it does come with a serve of points and status credits.

    20% off Top-Up Points

Probably not something most frequent flyers do, but Qantas offers members the opportunity to purchase points. Top Up points aren’t always a cheap option, but they can help out if you are just short of points.

During the Big Points Sale, you can grab a few at a 20% discount.  For example, during the sale you can pick up 10,000 points for $310.40, While it is a discount from the normal $388, it still represents a cost of over 3 cents per point.

20% off Qantas Hotel bookings with points

Qantas is offering 20% off any hotel bookings you make with points. As with Points Plus Pay flights, you are basically using your points as cash to purchase a room night.

20% off Qantas Wine when you purchase with points

Qantas Wine is often a good way to earn points, but you can also use your points to buy wine. With a few exceptions, you can currently buy wine with your points and receive a 20% discount.

There is a big exception with this. If you are looking at an offer that includes bonus points, then there will be no discount. In addition, any already discounted wine is not further discounted.

20% Off at the Rewards Store

You can currently get 20% off storewide at the Rewards Store. Again there are some exceptions. In particular, gift cards and already discounted items do not receive the discount.

20% off points for Avis car hire bookings

Finally, you can currently get a discount of 20% off the points required when hiring a car from Avis

    Thoughts

The Big Points Sale is offering discounts across a range of rewards availabe through Qantas Frequent Flyer. Having said that, often specific sales offer deeper discounts. For example, you can sometimes get 50% discounts at the Rewards Store.

Even so, there may be something of interest in there. This is especially so at the moment while it is more difficult to use points for flights.
