Qantas Singapore Lounge – A Review

During a recent trip, I had the opportunity to check-out the Qantas Singapore  Lounge.

The Qantas Singapore Lounge is one of several premium lounges across the Qantas international network. These lounges are designed for all passengers, and as such, the lounge is simply called the Qantas Singapore Lounge.

This reflects its history, and that is how it is now. Soon, a new Qantas First Lounge will be opening in Singapore. At that time, it will likely have a name change to the Qantas Singapore Business Lounge.

Hopefully, the new First Lounge will relieve some of the crowding issues that come into play with this lounge.

The Qantas Singapore Lounge

Location

Qantas operates flights in and out of Terminal 1 in Singapore. As a result, this is where you will find the Qantas Singapore Lounge.

To get there, you take a left turn after immigration. After a short walk, head up a set of escalators and you should soon see it.

The Lounge Space

Once you have entered the lounge and completed formalities at the front desk, you first reach the main bar. At this point, you can see the full scale of the lounge. You may also notice the fairly open floor plan of its design.

Having said that, you may notice there are two “wings’ to the lounge. These wings are then further divided into distinct areas.

Firstly, as you walk past the bar, to the right you will see the dining area of the lounge. Here you will see a range of seating styles, together with the various food serving areas.

On the other hand, if you look to the left, you see a range of seating, together with some communal facilities, such as desks.

As you walk around the lounge, you may notice some seating areas have reserved signs on them. These have been put aside for those travelling in First, and Platinum One members.

Food & Drink

The food selection at the lounge is quite extensive. On offer are

• All-Day dining Cooked to Order items
• Hot buffet options
• Salads
• Deserts
• Snack foods (such as chips)

All Day Dining

First up, there is a cook to order station. Generally, there are two cooked to order options available. On the day I was at the lounge, the two options were a Chicken Laksa or Hakka Braised Pork. I opted for the Laksa, which was quite tasty.

The cook to order station has a distinct eating area set aside, where you can receive a level of table service. Having said that, you are free to sit pretty much anywhere.

Buffet

Secondly, there is an extensive buffet selection. This offers hot options, a range of salads, and several desserts. There is certainly plenty to choose from.

Snacks and Self Serve Drinks

Finally, there is a range of snack options around the lounge. These include chips and the like. There are coffee making facilities and a range of cool drinks available.

 

Finally, there are shower facilities in the lounge. In total, the lounge boasts 20 shower rooms, and an attendant is present to manage access to the facilities.

Access Options

Being an international Qantas Business Lounge, access is granted to a range of passengers. The following list shows those that may access the lounge

• Qantas Frequent Flyers: Qantas Gold, Platinum and Platinum One when travelling on an Emirates, Qantas, Jetstar or oneworld flight
• Passengers in First Or Business: First or Business Class passengers travelling on an Emirates or Qantas flight
• Members of other Oneworld Programs: oneworld Sapphire and Emerald equivalent frequent flyers before a Qantas or oneworld flight
• Emirates Skywards status: Emirates Skywards Platinum or Gold members travelling on an Emirates or Qantas flight
• Qantas Club Members: Qantas Club members and Annual Guest cards before a Qantas or Jetstar flight only

Be aware that the lounge opens at 2.30 pm. As a result, it is not available if you have a morning flight out of Singapore.

Final Thoughts

For a Business Lounge, the Qantas Singapore Lounge provides a large space with decent facilities. If provides a good range of food and beverages – perhaps as it was designed as a premium lounge.

It does get busy at times, and this has become more so since the flights to London returned to Singapore as their transit point. Fortunately, the new First Lounge is not far away, and this should take some of the pressure off the lounge.
