Qantas Status Credits Part 2: Loyalty Bonus Offers

In the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, Status Credits are used as a measure of the amount of flying that you do on Qantas and selected partners. The primary purpose of  Status Credits is that it determines your status level in the program. They also have a second purpose – in determining when you are awarded with various bonus offers.

In Part 1, we took a look at how Status Credits are used to determine your status level in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. We continue our journey in this article with a look at the various bonus offers that are available. As you earn Status Credits over your membership year, there are a number of bonus offers that are available.

Bonus Offers

The Qantas program offers a number of Bonus Awards that are tied to your annual Status Credit earn. Qantas give a good summary on its website, and we will work through the various offers that are outlined in this table.

It is in the bonus offers that we see that not all Status Credits are created equally. While Qantas set a number of Status Credits to be earned, they do not always include all the status credits you have earned in the year. For the most part, only Status Credits earned on the services of Qantas or Jetstar are considered for these awards.

Loyalty Bonus

The first bonus offer is the Loyalty Bonus. This is awarded after each 500 Status Credits you earn each year.  Qantas only include Status Credits that you earn on Qantas or Jetstar flights. Status Credits earned on other partners are not included.

The following table summarises where the Loyalty Bonus is earned.

Once you have achieved a Loyalty Bonus, Qantas give you the choice of receiving either 8,000 Qantas Points of 50 Status Credits. You will be able to select your choice when you log into your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. You have 90 days in which to make the selection.

There’s a couple of points that can be made about selecting Status Credits. Firstly, they do not count toward the other bonus offers. They do count toward gaining Silver, Gold or Platinum status, and they count toward your lifetime total.

The second point is that, at present, the count toward the membership year in which you make the selection. If you become eligible for a bonus late in your membership year, you can hold off until your new year to get a kick start on your annual status renewal.

Platinum Bonus Reward

There is a single Platinum Bonus Reward, and this is awarded at 2,400 Status Credits. Once again, these need to be earned on Qantas or Jetstar services.

Members achieving this get to choose from one of three rewards. They can choose to give a friend a Gold membership, or they can opt to receive 50,000 Qantas Points. Finally, they can choose to receive three Qantas Valet Parking or Qantas Chauffeured Transfers vouchers.

Again, you will be given 90 days to make your selection.

Platinum One Offer

There are two Platinum One offers. A 75,000 Qantas Points offer at 5,000 Status Credits, and a further bonus of 100,000 Qantas Points at 7,000 Status Credits. These Status Credits need to be earned in one membership year on the services of Qantas or Jetstar,
