Qantas to enforce Club dress code

In a note to travel agents, Qantas has advised that from 1 April 2015, Qantas will be introducing a minimum standard of dress for guests that use the Domestic Qantas Club and Business Lounges. The Qantas Club lounges affetced by this change are the Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney lounges.

While a minimu dress code has been long written into the access requirements of the lounge it has not been enforced to any great extent. The change to greater enforcement of the rules is said to be in response to feedback from Qantas Frequent Flyers indicating a desire for a dress standard to be implemented.

“Entry may be refused at the discretion of the lounge staff if visitors do not meet the appropriate standard”, the airline says.

“Lounge staff will use their discretion to determine if a visitor to the lounge meets our smart casual dress guidelines.

while it may not be an exhaustive list, Qantas has provided an indication of the type of clothing that might not be permitted. This includes:

  • Singlets
  • Bare feet
  • Rubber thongs
  • Clothing with offensive images or slogans

Eligible visitors to lounge wearing company uniforms will still be permitted, and Qantas has specifically stated that this will include hi-vis work wear.
