Qantas to extend your current status by 12 months

Qantas Frequent Flyer will be extending members’ current status by 12-month status. This comes as a result of the current COVID-19 situation and reflects the grounding of a great number of Frequent Flyers.

And there is no end in sight to the travel restrictions. As a result, many Frequent Flyers were looking down the barrel of losing their status.

The extension applies to all Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members, who will all be given a one-year extension. That’s every member with some sort of status.

The extension will apply to members who would normally see their status reviewed between March 2020 and February 2021.

Qantas will be rolling out the extension in two phases.

Firstly, members with a membership year ending between March and June 2020, will see their adjustment made by 20 March 2020. When that occurs, members will see their status extended into 2021.

The second wave will see everyone else see their membership status extended. Qantas says these members will have their accounts updated by 9 April 2020.

There is no need to register for this – it will all happen automatically. You don’t need to fly, not even the normal 4 flights that are required.

There’s More

If you can’t fly, then what?

Qantas says it plans to offer status credits through a series of offers from their program partners. There’s not a lot of detail on this at the moment – but we should find out what they have in mind in the near future.

It will be interesting to see what Qantas has in mind with these offers.
