After operating various versions of the 747 for almost 50 years, Qantas is retiring the type from its fleet. However, knowing the aircraft are dear to the heart of many, they are arranging a series of farewell events.
For the aviation enthusiast, and frequent flyers, there will be a series of three farewell joy flights.
Over the course of a week, there will be one flight out of the cities of Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney. They aren’t going anywhere in particular – they will simply be a one hour flight to say goodbye. In the end, you will land back at whichever city you left from.
The flights will go on sale at midday on Wednesday, 8 July.
Schedule
Qantas has scheduled three Qantas Jumbo Joy flights as follows:
- Sydney: Monday July 13.
- Brisbane: Wednesday July 15
- Canberra: Friday July 17
Bookings
The flights will be on sale from midday Wednesday 8 July. If you want an economy seat, you will be up for $400. If you’d like to be further forward in the aircraft, you can pay $747 for a Business seat.
The Final Departure
Finally, you will be able to see the last 747-400 in the fleet departing Sydney at approximately 2pm on 22 July 2020. This will depart as flight QF7474 following a staff farewell function.
