It’s been a long time coming, but Qantas have finally announced the redevelopment of the Adelaide lounges. The project will see the overhaul of the Qantas Club and Qantas Chairman’s lounge, and the development of a new Qantas Business Lounge.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because it was first announced in August 2022. That said, there has been work going on behind the scenes, and Qantas is now ready to begin construction of the new lounge precinct.
Overall, they will be working within the confines of the current space they have. Essentially, the current Qantas Club will be split into two. One half will form the Qantas Club and the other the Qantas Business Lounge.
While the overall space will remain the same, the redesign will see total seating capacity rise by 10%
Stage 1: Adelaide Qantas Club
First up, is a revamp of the Qantas Club. Qantas says this work will kick off this month, and expected to be ready for customers in November, 2024. (Yes, this year).
Throughout the construction phase the existing Qantas Club will continue to operate as it currently does. It will open one hour prior to the first Qantas service and close after the last departure.
However, as noted the Qantas Club will be operating with a lower capacity at this time. As a result, Qantas will offer a ‘Grab and Go’ offering with premium breakfast options and barista coffee. This will be available during busy morning peak travel times if the lounges reach capacity.
Stage 2: Adelaide Qantas Business Lounge
This is probably the bit that everyone has been waiting for. Well, maybe not everyone, but those that fly in Business Class, and those with Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer status may have been.
While the current lounge looks to have been designed with a business lounge in mind, it has not actually had one. That changes with this project, and plugs a gap in the Qantas Lounge network. It was the only mainland state capital lacking a Business Lounge.
The construction of the Qantas Business Lounge will take place after the Adelaide Qantas Club is complete, and be ready to accept customers from mid-2025.
The Designs
As with most of the recent lounges, Qantas will draw local inspirations in the design of the lounge. In the case of Adelaide
The interiors of the new lounge precinct will be inspired by the beauty of South Australia, drawing from the state’s landscapes, culture and iconic food and flavours. South Australian sourced furniture, lighting and natural materials will feature in the lounges, along with fittings curated by the Jam Factory and artwork created by local First Nations artists.
None of this says anything about the Chairman’s Lounge. All Qantas have revealed is that it will be getting a makeover. I guess those that have access will have to wait and see.
