Qantas has announced that it will begin direct flights from Perth to Hobart and Newcastle. Regional offshoot QantasLink will operate the flights using using Airbus A319 jets.
Taking off in September, QantasLink will be the only airline offering a direct flight between Perth and Newcastle. Operating three times a week (on Monday, Friday and Sunday), the new flights will provide over 45,000 seats each year between the two cities, supporting FIFO workers and mining customers with a non-stop air service into Western Australia.
In the case of Hobart, Qantas will resume its Perth service from 26 September 2025. The new QantasLink service will operate on Monday, Friday and Sunday year-round, with the exception of May, June and August.
In announcing the flights, QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan said
We’re really proud to continue our support for Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors, with our newest QantasLink routes linking Perth to Hobart once more and Perth to Newcastle for the first time.
These direct services will not only boost inbound visitors to WA but offer more opportunities for those working in the resource sectors across the country with improved options for their travel.
Aircraft Details
Network Aviation will operate the services under the QantasLink banner. They will use their 150-seat QantasLink A319 aircraft, and the fares will include onboard meals and checked bags included.
The aircraft are fitted with Qantas Entertainment app systems, enabling customers to watch a wide range of movies and TV shows on their own devices (note: inflight WiFi is not available on these aircraft).
