QT Hotels and Resorts has opened the doors on its first regional hotel – the QT Newcastle. As a result, Newcastle is now home to two five-star hotels.
The 104-room hotel is located in a former David Jones building on Hunter Street Mall. The 113 year old heritage property has been revitalised with the interior design elements we would expect from a QT Hotel.
On top of the guest rooms, the hotel boasts a rooftop bar and a modern Australian restaurant.
A look inside the QT Newcastle
The 104 guest rooms and suites feature industrial textures alongside brushed brass accents and designer furnishings, highlighting coastal drama, natural beauty, and QT’s penchant for the unexpected. Guests are invited to experience a renewed sense of discovery upon every visit.
A natural light-filled sanctuary fixed in time within the building’s iconic dome and clock face steals the scene; the Clock Suite boasts uninterrupted harbour views, enhanced by the suite’s centrepiece restored in its former glory. A designer bathroom dripping in indulgent extras sits pride of place featuring a lavishly oversized bathtub surrounded in emerald green finery.
Jana Restuarant
Nestled on the ground floor is signature restaurant Jana. Jana offers an approachable, premium produce-led
menu overseen by award-winning Executive Chef Massimo Speroni. Speroni’s Michelin-starred experience, from San Domenico in Imola, Italy, and Café le Paillotes in Pescara offers an elevated twist on the modern Australian bar and grill,
The menu features a familiarity of flavours, with dishes such as Hiramasa Kingfish with fresh citrus and Pukara Estate Lamb Backstrap with black garlic jus, sitting proudly alongside a premium steak offering, sourced entirely from local producers.

Head upstairs, and you’ll find jewel in the crown – Rooftop at QT. Boasting uninterrupted views across the harbour, this rooftop bar offers an innovative izakaya.
