Customers of Singapore Airlines and Silkair will need to be mindful that they may soon be travelling on Scoot. Singapore Airlines (SIA) and SilkAir have announced a codeshare agreement with Scoot – the low cost carrier of Singapore Airlines.

Effective from today, Singapore Airlines (and SilkAir) will begin placing their flight numbers on Scoot operated flights. While this will extend to over 30 destinations, they will begin with 9 destinations. In amongst that will be the Scoot service between Singapore and the Gold Coast, which will gain a Singapore Airlines flight number.

Codeshare flights

Under the agreement, Singapore Airlines (SQ) and Silkair (MI) flight numbers will begin to appear on the Scoot flights. The rollout will begin with Scoot flights serving Athens, Clark, Gold Coast, Hat Yai, Ipoh, Krabi, Kuching and Palembang.

Once fully operational, you will find the codeshare services on the following services:

Amritsar, Athens, Clark, Dalian, Gold Coast, Haikou, Hangzhou, Harbin, Hat Yai, Honolulu, Ipoh, Jaipur, Jeddah, Jinan, Kaohsiung, Krabi, Kuantan, Kuching, Lucknow, Macau, Nanjing, Ningbo, Palembang, Qingdao, Quanzhou, Sapporo, Shenyang, Tianjin, Tiruchirappalli, Wuxi, Xi’an and Zhengzhou.

Codeshare product

In addition to through check-in service, SIA and SilkAir customers will be offered Scoot’s FlyBagEat privileges. This includes a checked baggage allowance, complimentary meal and beverage, and a blanket for flights above four hours. SIA and SilkAir customers will also be offered the flexibility to select seats on Scoot flights online through the SIA and SilkAir websites when booking their tickets, for a fee.

In a way, this is similar to Qantas codesharing on its Low Cost Carrier Jetstar. Not the end of the world, but for some. it will be something to be aware of when booking.
