Staying Connected Abroad: Why a Travel eSIM Like Jetpac Beats Traditional Roaming

A smarter, cheaper, and hassle‑free way to use mobile data overseas—plus the travel perks Jetpac adds on top.

I was travelling recently, and the familiar question came up again: how do you stay connected overseas without spending a fortune? My default has always been to switch on my home provider’s roaming. I like keeping my number active, even though what I really need is just reliable data. It also saves me from dealing with airport kiosks trying to sell overpriced SIM cards the moment I land.

This time, someone suggested another option: use a travel eSIM for data and keep your main SIM active for calls. It’s a simple setup that solves multiple problems at once. Travel eSIMs are usually cheaper than roaming bundles, they eliminate the hassle of buying a physical SIM, and everything is activated digitally in minutes.

Even better, using an eSIM means no fiddling with tiny SIM trays, no risk of losing your primary SIM mid‑trip, and no waiting around for a physical card to arrive.

After searching around, I settled on using a Jetpac eSIM. The price was good, and they offered travel features that were not offered by other eSIM providers. For example, the offer of lounge access if your flight was delayed, and the ability to use important travel apps, even if you run out of data.

Jetpac is a leading Singapore‑based eSIM provider launched in 2022, offering fast and reliable mobile data for international travelers. They offer a range of regional and global eSIM plans, with options available for short 4‑day getaways or longer travels of 30 days or more.

    Pricing & Data Plans

Jetpac provides flexible eSIM data packages ranging from 1GB to 40GB+, giving you the freedom to choose the right amount of data for browsing, navigation, social media, and streaming while abroad.

They have a wide range of plans for different geographies, lengths of time, and included data. The following is just a small sample of the options available.

I had initially looked at the 4-day plans, and in most regions, you could get a 1 GB plan for $US7. From what I could tell from my phone usage, 1 GB was going to be sufficient for my purposes.

    Europe1 GB4 days$7

At the 30-day end of the range, the following shows the prices at the time I checked.

    Network Coverage & Speed

To ensure strong connectivity worldwide, Jetpac partners with top local mobile networks across multiple countries. Most plans deliver 4G/LTE speeds, and 5G access is available in supported regions. That’s ideal for smooth streaming, video calls, and fast downloads during your trip.

    Easy eSIM Setup

Activating a Jetpac eSIM is simple and beginner‑friendly. After downloading the Jetpac app, users are guided step‑by‑step through the installation process. Jetpac’s official website also provides detailed setup guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting resources to help you get connected quickly.

    Jetpac eSIM: Travel Features

Jetpac eSIM offers more than just travel data. There are some useful extras built into many of its plans. These add‑ons give Jetpac a real edge over other travel eSIM providers. Below is a breakdown of the key features that make Jetpac worth considering.

    SmartDelay Lounge Access

One of Jetpac’s most impressive perks is SmartDelay, a feature that gives you free airport lounge access if your flight is delayed by more than one hour. Access is provided through DragonPass, a global lounge network, and it covers you and a travelling companion.

Most Jetpac eSIM plans include SmartDelay automatically.

Tip: Register your flight in the Jetpac app at least 24 hours before departure. You can add up to two flights per data pack, so it’s smart to do this as soon as your travel plans are confirmed.

    Optional Lounge Access Add‑On

When buying your eSIM, you can also purchase discounted lounge passes for airports worldwide. Most passes cost$US30–$US35, and Jetpac offers lower prices when you buy multiple passes. It’s a simple way to upgrade your airport experience without paying premium lounge rates.

Access to Key Apps After Data Runs Out

Jetpac allows you to continue using four essential apps (WhatsApp, Uber, Grab, and Google Maps) even after your data balance hits zero. This ensures you can still message, navigate, and book rides when you need it most.

    My Experience with Jetpac

I decided to test out Jetpac while I was in Malaysia. As this was just a short visit, I opted for a 4 day plan with 10GB of data. It all proved to be a pretty painless experience, and everything worked as advertised.

I setup the app on my phone to keep an eye on my data usage, and everything worked according to what was written on the tin.

    Final Words

As I was to discover, eSims offer a convenient and cost‑effective way to stay connected abroad. If you’re planning a trip and want your phone to “just work” the moment you land, it’s worth giving Jetpac a look.
