The David Jones American Express Platinum Card is the big brother of the David Jones American Express Card. Building on the benefits of that card, it can be a good choice for those that spend big in David Jones.

You have the option of keeping your points in the Membership Rewards program, from where you can transfer to a range of airline and hotel programs. Alternatively, you can choose to have the points transferred to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account each month.

American Express are offering a generous 30,000 Membership Rewards Points or 15,000 Qantas Points for new Card Members.

To be eligible for this offer, you will need to sign up online, be approved and spend $750 on the Card outside David Jones within the first three months of becoming a Card Member.

Points Earning

You earn points initially in the Membership Rewards program (you can opt in to an automatic conversion to Qantas Points). The following table shows the overall earnings rate for different spend categories

Frequent Flyer Earn rates

If you collect points in Membership Rewards, and haven’t opted into the Qantas Points option, then you are able to transfer the points to a number of other Airline Loyalty programs. If you have opted into Qantas Points, you will not have this option.

The programs that you can transfer points to are:

  • Virgin Australia Velocity
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich

At present, the transfer rate to each of this programs is 2 Membership Rewards Points to 1 point in the airline program.

  • Complimentary alterations on women’s and men’s apparel purchased instore (excludes David Jones Bridal)
  • Priority appointments at Personal Shopping Suites and Shopping Bag Concierge
  • Complimentary gift wrapping for items purchased instore or online using your Card
  • Fashion Pay Later Option – defer payment for 3 months when you spend $250 or more on any women’s or men’s apparel, shoes and fashion accessories instore
  • Up to 4 Years Interest Free with No Deposit available on homewares, furniture, bedding and electrical purchases of $500 or more purchased instore
  • Christmas Deferred Payment Optiondelay your payments for purchases made between 1 November and 24 December, until February the following year

Travel Benefits

The American Express David Jones Platinum Card offers travellers the following benefits

  • Complimentary access up to two entries per year to the American Express lounge at Sydney International Airport and Melbourne International Airport
  • Complimentary Travel Insurance, when the travel is paid for using the card. This covers items such as emergency medical expenses, personal liability, travel cancellation, as well as loss of money, documents, and baggage.

  • Buyer’s Advantage extends the manufacturer’s warranty for up to 12 months on eligible items purchased with your Card
  • Refund Protection – we’ll credit your account if you’re refused a refund on an unused eligible item within 90 days of purchase
