Qantas introduce two factor authentication

It would be fair to say that Qantas Frequent Flyers value their stash of Qantas Points. You can use them to redeem flight awards, get upgrade awards or obtain gift cards and other merchandise. So valuable in fact, that many have come to refer to them as a type of currency.

At the moment, for most members, this is all protected by a single 4 digit PIN. While Qantas will lock your account after several failed logins, this mechanism falls somewhat short by today’s standards.

To better protect your stash of Qantas Points, Qantas has announced it will be rolling out two factor authentication as its latest security measure.

Qantas Two Factor Authentication

While two factor authentication can be done a number of ways, Qantas will be sending an SMS when you attempt to login in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

From 15 July 2019, Qantas will send you an SMS with a verification code when you attempt to log in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. This is to keep your personal details safe online and your Qantas Frequent Flyer account secure.

Once Qantas have sent the SMS, you will have 10 minutes to log into your account. If you don’t log in within that 10 period, you will have to start the login process again.

Of course, there are times when you won’t have your phone available. Or you may be overseas and on a different number to that you normally use. All is not lost – you will be able to choose to answer security questions.

Last year, Singapore Airlines added its own two factor authentication process to the Krisflyer login process.
