Velocity has increased the number of Velocity Points that members with elite status receive on airport rides made with ridesharing company Ola. This increase is effective immediately and doubles the number of points that a Platinum member can earn.
Details
The increased earn rates are available on selected airport rides. In the case of Ola, this means airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Avalon, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
The bonus points are in line with the bonus that elite members earn on flights. As a result, on airport rides there is a bonus of 50%, 75% and 100% for Silver, Gold, and Platinum Velocity members respectively.
As a result, you will earn Velocity Points on airport rides as follows
- Red members will earn 2 points per $1 spent on airport rides
- Silver members will earn 3 points per $1 spent on airport rides
- Gold members will earn 3.5 points per $1 spent on airport rides
- Platinum members will earn 4 points per $1 spent on airport rides
For all other rides, all members will continue to receive 1 point per $1 spend.
For Velocity members that have not joined Ola, there is an offer of 1,000 Velocity Points for the first ride. This offer is valid through to June 30.
Thoughts
This is an interesting move, given that Qantas and Uber recently went the other way. That is they removed bonus points that were offered to elite members.
