Velocity has announced that it will be changing its earning structure on South African Airways flights. The changes come into effect on January 1, 2019, and will align earning with the fare brands used by South African Airways.
At present, earn rates are based on Business, Economy or Discount Economy. Under the new earnings structure, this will split into 7 different categories. The following table shows the new earn categories, compared to the current earn rates.
FARE TYPE |
SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS (SA) FARE CLASS |
POINTS EARN RATE PER MILE FROM Jan 1 |
POINTS EARN RATE PER MILE FROM Until Dec 31 |
---|---|---|---|
PREMIUM | J, C | 1.5 Velocity Points | 1.25 Velocity Points |
PRIORITY | Z, D | 1.25 Velocity Points | 1.25 Velocity Points |
PRIORITY INTERNATIONAL | Z | 1.25 Velocity Points | 1.25 Velocity Points |
PRIORITY DOMESTIC | D | 1 Velocity Point | 1.25 Velocity Points |
SELECT | Y, B, M, K | 1 Velocity Point | 1 Velocity Point |
PLUS | H, S, Q | 0.5 Velocity Points | 1 Velocity Point |
PLUS | T, V | 0.5 Velocity Points | 0.5 Velocity Points |
SAVER | L, W, G | 0.25 Velocity Points | 0.5 Velocity Points |
In some cases, the earnings rate has gone up, while in others it has either remained the same or fallen. In an overall sense, this follows the pattern of earn rates being more closely aligned with the fares paid. This has been a bit of a feature of most programs over the last few years.
