Velocity extending frequent flyer status to 2022-23

To help members retain their Velocity Status, Virgin Australia has announced a new extension of Velocity Frequent Flyer Platinum, Gold, and Silver memberships.

Velocity is offering two different extensions. The extension that applies to you, will depend on how you fit into the two categories.

2020 Status Rewards Offer

Firstly, there are Velocity Platinum and Gold members who took advantage of Velocity’s 2020 Status Rewards Program. The offer gave members who took a single flight by 28 March 2021 an extension of up to 18 months.

The last part of this extension was to be applied to members’ accounts at the end of this month. As a result, they would have kept their status until September next year.

Velocity will now apply the 12-month extension at the end of February 2022. Once that has been done, those members will have their status through to the end of February 2023.

That means that Velocity is allowing those members to enjoy their status for an extra 5 months.

8 Month Status Extension

Another group of members is being offered an 8-month extension to their status. This will apply to any Platinum, Gold, or Silver member with a review date between 30 September 2021 and 30 April 2022. Velocity will extend the status of these members by 8 months. The extension will be applied to members’ accounts upon their next review.

It is good to see Velocity help out status members – especially with the current situation. It is not clear how they came up with 5 months and 8 months. I guess they are taking a punt on when borders open, and people become willing to travel again.
