Velocity, Le Club AccorHotels new partnership

Le Club AccorHotels and Velocity Frequent Flyer have announced a new partnership which will allow members of the Velocity Frequent Flyer program to earn points while staying at participating Accor Hotels worldwide.

The new partnership, which kicks off on September 30, will allow members of the Le Club AccorHotels program to transfer the points across to Velocity. To take advantage of this new tie-up, members will first collect points in the Le Club AccorHotels program, and then subsequently transfer those across to the Velocity program.

The Le Club AccourHotels program covers the vast majority of the Accor Hotels portfolio, and includes hotel chains such as Sofitel, Novotel, M Gallery, Pullman, Adagio, Mercure, Grand Mercure, The Sebel and Ibis. There are some exceptions, such as Ibis Budget, which does not participate in the program.

For most airline programs, the standard conversion from Le Club AccorHotels is 2 Le Club AccorHotels points to 1 Frequent Flyer point. The current transfer to Qantas is an exception, transferring across at a 1:1 rate.

The conversion rate between Le Club AccorHotels points and Velocity Points is likely to matrch Accor’s existing tie-up with Qantas. That being the case, 1 Le Club AccorHotels point will trasfer as 1 Velocity Point. Under the Le Club AccorHotels program, there is generally a minimum transfer of 4,000 Le Club AccorHoetls points that can be made at a time.

Le Club AccorHotels also has the option for some programs of being able to setup an automatic transfer of points. This is not enabled for Qantas, and it is unclear as to whether this ability will be setup for Velocity.
