Velocity Frequent Flyer has announced the departure of four hotel chains from it program. As a result, Velocity members will no longer points when staying at in the groups as of next month. The affected hotel groups are Jumeirah International; Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces; Meritus Hotels and Resorts; and Hotel Urban Group.
While the chains themselves were small, they represented some fairly decent hotels. Among the hotels affected are the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. operated by Jumeirah International.
Hotel chains departing Velocity
Jumeirah International
Fist cab off the rank is the Jumeierah International group. Velocity first announced its departure earlier this month, with members eligible to collect points on stays taken by September 7, 2017. Until that date, Velocity members will earn 3 points per dollar spend during the stay.
Retroactive claims for stays made prior to September 7 will be accepted as long as they are made by December 7.
Hotel Urban Group
The Hotel Urban Group operate a small chain of hotels on the east coast. The final day members will be eligible to earn Points at these hotels will be 15 September 2017.
Claims for Retrospective Points for eligible activities up to and including 15 September 2017 will be accepted until 15 December 2017.
Meritus Hotels and Resorts
While a small group, Meritus run such hotels as the Marina Mandarin and Orchard Mandarin hotels in Singapore. Velocity members will beed to complete their stays by 15 September, 2017 in order to be eligible for Velocity Points. As with Hotel Urban, retrospective point claims may be made until December 15.
Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces
Taj Hotels, which operates mainly across India, will cease offering Velocity Points as of September 15, 2017. Once again, restrospective claims can be made by December 15.
The departure of the four chains continues a bit of a run that Velocity is having lately. For example, Virgin America is departing, and the Air New Zealand relationship is being wound back. In addition, BP has flagged that it intends to dissolve its partnership with Velocity.
