    Velocity members gain benefits on Alitalia

    As from today, June 10, 2016, Velocity members will be able to collect Velocity points when travelling on Alitalia. In addtion to the points earnings, Velocity Gold and Platinum members will gain access to elite benefits such as access to selected airport lounges.

    Earning Points and Status Credits on Alitalia

    When flying on eligible fares on Alitalia you will stand to earn Points and Status Credits. As is normal, the number of points that you will receive varies depending on fare class. The following table shows the earn rate for various fare classes

    Note that these rates apply when booking under the AZ flight numbers.  In addition, you can only earn where the operating carrier is either Alitalia or Virgin Australia (codeshare). Codeshare flights operated by other carriers are not eligible to earn.

    Earning of status credits is based on the standard status credit table for Virgin Australia. Note that while the Deep Discounted Economy fare classes earn points, these fares do not appear on the Status Earn tables, so don’t expect to earn Status Credits on those fare classes.

    Elite Benefits

    Velocity Platinum and Gold members will be eligible for some reciprocal benefits when flying on Alitalia. For example, these member will be eligible to access a number of lounges while traveling on Alitalia services. These lounges include:

    In addition to lounge access, Velocity Platinum and Gold members will receive priority check-in and priority boarding. Platinum, Gold and Silver members will receive an increased checked baggage allowance.
